First INR

Had my first doctors appointment with my new primary care doctor.  Wow, talk about a grouchy self righteous pompous old bag.  No wonder he's currently taking new patients.  I can't imagine anybody doing business with him for long.  He seemed more interested in chastising me for not admitting myself to the hospital for my initial treatment and far less interested in helping me or answering my questions.  He said I was "taking my life into my own hands".  I laughed and said, "I do it every day."  He said.. "oh.. you do it every day huh?".  Gee.. that's what I said.  sheesh. He wouldn't even give me my base INR or discuss any of the results from my initial blood tests.  He just said.. "that's not important."  Uh, customer here... if I say it's important, it's important.  I had to get a copy of the blood tests from the nurse since he didn't even have a copy there.  Soooo given that experience, I'll be changing doctors.  Luckily my brother's doctor has agreed to take me on.  I've heard good things about him.  Hopefully he won't mind helping me understand the results of the various tests I've been exposed to.  I'd also like to schedule an ultrasound scan of my good leg.. just to compare it to my other leg.  Not sure it's necessary, but you'd think they'd want to know if there are normally clots forming and breaking down in my good leg.

Now I'm going over the results of my initial blood tests and educating myself about what they mean as I go.  So far, all the tests look normal.  No underlying reason seems to exist for why I got a clot to begin with.  From what I've read there are a few other tests that can be done once the clot is gone.  But they won't be accurate until that point.  So, nothing to do now but keep chomping on the rat poison and hoping the clot goes away.

My base INR was 1.02.  It's now up to 1.2.  So I'm doubling my dose of rat poison.  And gee.. it seems like it isn't rocket science.  Get your INR number, if it's low, take more rat poison.  If it's high, take less rat poison.  Why the heck is a doctors visit even required?  They have no idea if I'm taking the prescribed amount or not.

Yep, I'm still grouchy.  I'm going to the gym tomorrow.  Yep, taking my life into my own hands.. again.
