Random Dosage
I had my second blood test to determine my INR. It was 3.2. It's supposed to be kept between 2 and 3 and ideally at 2.5. From what I understand it's pretty hard to hit it spot on. However, the crazy doctor I was seeing, has apparently been picking a random dosage out of his ass. I've been doing a lot of research on the subject, as I'm prone to do, and I've discovered some fairly up to date information and dosage calculators for warfarin use. It seems the ER doctor and my previous primary care physician are all practicing old school techniques.
My first INR was 1.2. I was taking 5mg of warfarin. The current accepted dosage increase would be no more than 20%. So my dosage should have gone up to 6mg. However, the kentucky fried brain of my previous GP for some reason decided a 100% increase would be better for me. So, when confronted with my current INR he simply decided to cut my dosage back to 5mg from 10mg. Hmm.. ok. I'm noticing a pattern here. He must be comfortable working with the 5s table. sigh. Current acceptable dosage guidelines say that the dosage should be cut back 20% since it's not in a danger zone. I was supposed to have another appointment today with Colonel Sanders.. but I called and cancelled it.
If you want something done right, you'll have to do it yourself.
No more weird side effects other than drowsiness and strange dreams. I havn't been having nightmares any more.. but all my dreams seem to be about bad situations. Cars breaking down, things not working right.. etc. Maybe it's just a subconscious thing. I think my leg is improving. It's so gradual though that it's hard to notice. But when I walk 3.5 miles I don't get that pumped up feeling any more. Time will tell. I'm still impatient.
